Introduction

Learn how Fillet supports Australian country of origin labelling ("CoOL") for retail food items.

Fillet and Australian country of origin labelling ("CoOL")

The Fillet web app provides tools that support the process of compliance with Australian Consumer Law, specifically, the Country of Origin Food Labelling Information Standard 2016 (the "Standard"). 1

In this initial release, functionality is focused on foods that are "Grown in Australia" and "Produced in Australia".

Other claims such as "Made in Australia" or "Packed in Australia" are anticipated to be supported in later releases.

Note:This initial release does support foods that are "Made in Australia" from 100% Australian ingredients, as these foods are eligible to use the "Grown in Australia" and Produced in Australia" standard marks.

Functionality in the Fillet web app

In this initial release, functionality focuses on foods that are covered by Section 18(1) of the Standard: 2

(1) This section applies to food if:

(a) it was grown, produced or made in Australia; and

(b) its ingredients are exclusively of Australian origin.

Note: This section will not apply if any ingredient, or any ingredient of a compound ingredient, is not grown or produced in Australia.

For definition of compound ingredient, please refer to subsection 11(4).

Ingredients

Ingredients are your base materials and are vital to the determination of Australian country of origin.

As you prepare for compliance with Australian CoOL requirements, it is important to ascertain if any ingredients have missing information about Australian country of origin.

When ingredients are used as components, Fillet uses their Australian country of origin information to calculate the percentage of Australian ingredients in the object that contains those ingredients.

Recipes

Recipes are the results of an intermediate process and are components designed to be combined with other components ("intermediate materials").

As such, this initial release does not cover Australian CoOL for recipes.

Menu items

Menu items are your items for sale, also referred to as “products for sale” or “sale goods".

Fillet helps you to review your eligibility for different Australian country of origin labels, specifically ,the standard marks.

For each menu item, see the different label options and download assets to use as labels.
